Quartile becomes a
ChatGPT Ads technology
partner, opening the
pilot to its
5,300 brands

The retail media optimization platform will route ChatGPT Ads through the same tools its clients already use, giving small brands a way onto a 1-billion-weekly-user surface without standing up a new team.

Quartile said on September 21 that it has become an official technology partner supporting advertising in ChatGPT, extending pilot access to the 5,300-plus brands and sellers already running through its retail media platform. The mechanical detail matters more than the announcement itself: participating advertisers get onto the surface through Quartile’s existing tools and workflows, with a dedicated internal team handling campaign setup, product feed integration, conversion tracking, targeting, budget calls, and ongoing optimization, “with no new internal team or platform expertise required from the brand.”

That last clause is the story. ChatGPT Ads have been technically self-serve since self-serve went live across 52 countries with an India SMB portal, and ChatGPT Ads hit a $1 billion run-rate as OpenAI opened self-serve in every market shortly after. Availability isn’t the constraint for small brands. Operational bandwidth is. A new channel that demands its own team, its own feed logic, and its own reporting rarely gets tested on a five-person marketing org, regardless of how the CPMs pencil.

Quartile, which describes itself as the world’s largest retail media optimization platform and manages more than $2 billion in annual ad spend, is arguing that ChatGPT should live in the same operational bucket as Amazon and Walmart Connect. Same feed elements, titles, imagery, copy, destination URLs, same optimization loop, same weekly review. That framing is the actual product.

“AI is creating entirely new ways for consumers to discover products, but technology alone does not create a successful advertising strategy,” said Daniel Knijnik, CEO and co-founder of Quartile. The company’s public line pairs automation with human strategists under what Knijnik calls an “experts + AI” approach, which reads as positioning against the assumption that a self-serve portal is sufficient onboarding for a paid channel of this scale.

The surrounding OpenAI activity is worth tracking. A September 16 product post confirmed Sponsored Agents testing with select US advertisers, HubSpot as the first CRM partner, and Shopify as the first ecommerce partner. The ChatGPT Ads app for US-based Shopify merchants becomes available internationally on September 23, in every market where ChatGPT Ads run. The pilot pool is widening on multiple axes at once.

For a small brand already inside a retail media agency, the practical question is narrow: does ChatGPT belong in the paid channel mix this quarter, before larger advertisers arrive and reprice inventory? Pilot queues are finite; ChatGPT advertising remains formally in pilot on Quartile’s own offering page. The window to test at introductory economics is measured in weeks, not quarters, and the feed hygiene work that governs performance is the same work that governs every other retail media channel. It’s the boring prerequisite that decides who’s ready when the queue opens.
